Thrifted Pinterest - LBD

Today's Thrifted Pinterest is a combination of two very popular pins.  If you're a frequent visitor to the site, or even not as frequent, chances are, you've seen these images:

Simple, right?  Black dress, cognac belt, denim jacket, all of which I had in my closet.  I even have the plastic-rim glasses (though not simply for fashion's sake).  But of course, I didn't want to just copy these looks exactly.  They had to have my own spin on them, because that's just more fun!

Did you catch the shot of my little escape artist in that second to last picture?  Never a quiet moment with this one!

Also, you guys, I succumbed.  To advertising, that is.  I kept seeing ads for the new lipstick, Color Whisper from Maybelline, the one with no oils, harsh ingredients, blah blah blah.  I usually try to tune out the makeup ads, since I'm not convinced a new nail polish or other cosmetic is going to change my life, and all that.  But, I decided to give it a try, and I would actually recommend it!  Usually lipstick will get cakey and dry looking after a few hours on my smackers, no matter how much chapstick I apply beforehand, but this one actually goes on very smoothly and stays fresh looking the whole time it's on.  (I swear, I missed my calling to be in advertising.)  Anyways, just a little heads up for ya if you're in the market for a new lipstick.

Don't forget to come back next week for another Thrifted Pinterest!

OOTD - Brighter Days Ahead

It's cold today.  Like bundle up in a parka, drink lots of hot beverages, or maybe stay in bed kind of Cold.  I guess I just haven't quite acclimated to Arkansas' crazy weather, where it's warm enough to break a sweat on Saturday and freezing two days later.  So, in honor of the chilly temps, here's some pictures from a few months ago, when it was sunny, since apparently it's warmer in November than March in these parts!

Thrifted Pinterest

Pinterest is bad for my bank account.  I mean, let's face it, you get to scroll through pages and pages of fabulous outfits and Polyvore boards, and it makes even the most frugal shopper feel like she wants to trash most of her closet and go max out a credit card at the mall.  Oh, that's just me?  Fair enough!

In order to keep myself from going shopping crazy, I've started pinning outfits that contain items that I already own.  I'm going to start a weekly feature for you guys called Thrifted Pinterest where I recreate some of my outfit pins using mostly thrifted, resale, or DIY items I have in my closet.  Because it really is possible to pull a lot of these looks together without spending your rent payment!

For our first installment, I submit this pin I ran across of a knit blazer from the blogger's dream store, Anthropologie:

Okay, this blazer is adorable, but it comes with the price tag of $98!  However, I just happened to have it's twin in my closet, along with a similar patterned top, both via Goodwill.  Therefore, I was able to pull together a similar outfit for less than the cost of the original blazer!  I did change up the jeans from the original picture, though.  It was originally with dark skinny jeans, which I do have, but I wanted to have a slightly more 70's vibe going on with the long shirt and bootcut jeans, just to make it my own!

Kidlet Style

You guys, I have the best and second best job in the world.  The best job is getting the opportunity to raise my two little girls and watch them grow up.  The second best?  Getting to be a personal stylist for them!  Of course, having a part-time job in a kid's resale store definitely helps out with that!  I get first pick from some of the new merchandise that's always coming in to Once Upon a Child, and even though it's all cute, I don't get to buy nearly as much as I sometimes want to!  But, with kids as cute as mine, you really can't blame me for wanting to dress them up all the time.

I just love those little owls!

OOTD - Skirting the Issue

This skirt has gotten a lot of wear this winter.  It happens to be a great shot of color during the dreary cold months, and I'm almost sad to retire it once the temperatures start warming up.  Almost is, of course, the key word, since I'm beyond ready for warmer days and more time spent outside instead of inside doing Jackson Pollock-inspired nail art to pass the time!

Oh yeah, did you notice the newest milestone in my quest to grow out my hair?  It can actually go into a ponytail, with the help of quite a few bobby pins (5, to be exact)!  I am so glad I toughed out the awkward middle of the growing out stage instead of lopping it all off in frustration!

Outfit Details:
Grey Tee: American Apparel via Plato's Closet, $6
Green Shirt: Aeropostale, $10 (clearance)
Skirt: DIY'ed from materials on hand
Shoes: F21 via Plato's Closet, $10
Camera Necklace: F21, $5
Multicolored Necklace: Kanzi, gifted
Earrings: Icing by Claire's, $3
Grand Total: $34
